I'm working hard to get Family Secrets out on time because I want to make it the very best book it can be. Today I finished re-writes on the first four chapters and took a break to create the below. I'd like to introduce you to Sophia Morganthal.
You guys are AMAZING! Thanks so much for liking my page! I can't wait to share my book with you. And as I promised, below is a teaser where Sophia begins to learn her magic... I pulled out a pretty blue gem stone that matched my shirt and held it in my right hand, placing my left hand over it just as Alexa had done. My magic was waiting inside of me for a chance to be used, as impatient as a child kept inside on a rainy day. I grasped a tendril and tugged lightly, feeling it un-spool and move towards my hands where I could send it into the stone. My power began to pour into the sapphire but it wasn’t long before there was some resistance. I pulled back and felt my connection to the stone break. In my hands, I held my first very own power stone. Opening my hand, the gem sat on my palm, pulsing along with my heartbeat. I barked out a laugh, staring at the stone then raised my head to look at Alexa.
“I can’t believe you did it on your first try. No half-witch has. Do it again,” she commanded. I picked another stone, this one a pale yellow, and started the process all over again. It was easier this time and I finished in a couple minutes. “Again,” she said. After a few more tries, we were done for the day and I had a rainbow of mini power stones to choose from. Alexa was still pouting on the couch when I grabbed my stones and stood up. She let me leave with a warning that I could expect be tired after training. I took the stairs two at a time to get to my room. Maybe I was a little tired, but at the same time it was as if I had electricity running through my veins. I was a witch. I let out a small giggle then slapped a hand to my mouth, looking around as if someone would hear me. The giggle became a snort and soon I was laughing and holding my sides until my stomach ached. I was a witch! (Unedited and Subject to Change) “Alright, I’ll stop being a jerk.”
“Is that even possible?” I asked, trying to hold back my grin. He tried to appear offended for all of a minute before laughing at himself. I loved his laugh. It was husky and low, which kick started the butterflies in my stomach, and no matter how I was feeling always made me want to join in. “You really have no idea,” he smirked. “I keep my extra special jerkiness just for when you’re around.” “Oh, that’s an incentive to hang out with you. You really should’ve kept that to yourself.” He tossed his head back and laughed before turning straight-faced. “I’d be on my best behavior,” he paused, “at least for the first five minutes or so.” Then he grinned, flashing his adorable dimples at me and making my knees weak. “If that,” I responded. He looked ready to argue the point when the bell rang, ending our time together for the day. Study hall always seemed to fly by. I sighed. I didn’t want it to end. Apparently, neither did he. “Do you think you could blow off lunch with your group on Monday? We could meet here.” “And do what?” I asked, grabbing my books off the table and heading towards the front of the library. “I don’t know; anything I guess.” I thought about spending another lunch period with Alexa and her friends and grimaced. “Sure. I can meet here on Monday.” “Great! See ya, Sophie.” He tugged on a curl that was hanging loose on the side of my face and was gone. My heart fluttered in my chest and I leaned against a bookcase, feeling light headed. He called me Sophie. I smiled. Only my parents and Abby called me Sophie. I stood there with a goofy grin on my face staring after him until my shoulder was knocked from behind. “Sorry,” said the girl as she pushed by me but her tone made it clear she was anything but. I rubbed my shoulder, watching as she walked away until recognition hit. It was the girl Connor had been arguing with, the one in the other coven. What the hell was that about?
